A pre-Christmas Puzzle New Moon in Sagittarius
I thought I would just jump on with a very short blog about the upcoming New Moon on the 20th December and the solstice the following day. And I do mean a very short blog because I know that no one has time to read right now. On December 20th, just the day before the Winter Solstice and the Sun’s entry into Capricorn, we have a New Moon at 28 degrees and 24 minutes of Sagittarius, almost at the anaretic, malefic 29th degree. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is exalted in Cancer sitting at 22 degrees right up high on the Midheaven – BUT he is retrograde!! And 22 degrees of the Cardinal signs, I have noticed, is a point where big events seem to ‘happen’. Jupiter is now retrograde until mid-March and he doesn’t come out of his ‘shadow’, i.e. the point where he began his retrograde motion until after the first week in June next year; he will be back to the 22-degree mark where he stands at this New Moon towards the end of May 2026. So what is happening now that may not resolve for another six months?
This New Moon has a pair of escorts either side of the King (the Sun) and the Queen (the Moon) in the form of Mars and Venus. Venus is the chart ruler, in Sagittarius, and Mars is exalted in Capricorn. Venus governs the Ascendant, perceptions, and the 8th house of other people’s money, whilst Mars rules the Descendant, significant others and open enemies, and the second house of assets. Venus currently rises as a Morning Star – she is the assertive warrior queen rather than the Goddess of love and beauty – whilst an exalted Mars is the strong warrior. So we have a Sun and Moon, ruled by an exalted but retrograde Jupiter up on the Midheaven, where he sits with Royalty, Government bodies and, because it is Jupiter, leaders of the clergy, accompanied by two warriors. It would seem, therefore, that whatever is happening out there it will have something to do with war and money. Venus represents our money systems, and we know that levels of borrowing are off the charts at the moment. Jupiter retrograde could indicate someone, or a body that is full of largesse, arrogance or so full of their own importance that they consider only they know best. And an overconfident Jupiterian person or entity will sink huge sums of money into something to ensure the result they want. But Jupiter often promises big, and yet in the end cannot deliver.
Suffice to say though that there are many symbols of endings – the number of New Moons close to the anaretic 29thdegree, which doesn’t really change until we get into the astrological New Year next Spring; 2025 in numerology represents a number 9 year, again symbolising endings. 2026 on the other hand is a number 1 year, beginnings, and we have a new Chinese New Year in the sign of the Fire Horse, as we bid farewell to the sneaky slithery snake as he sheds his skin and renews, exactly on a Solar Eclipse, almost at the anaretic 29th degree of Aquarius, and on a Saturn//Neptune conjunction at the global point of 0 Aries. My goodness, too many points of significance to list for early 2026, but all extremely auspicious in my view. All indications that will likely herald some kind of new paradigm.
Back in 2020 we had a Jupiter/Saturn conjunction which was no ordinary Jupiter/Saturn conjunction – they happen like clockwork every 20 years. But this one marked an element change – it marked the point when Jupiter and Saturn would meet in Air signs for the next 200 years or so, replacing the Earth meetings we had had since the mid 1800’s. Earth represents things that are tangible – money, banking, wealth, buildings, the rail and road networks. But Air is very different – Air is intangible. Already we can no longer see money as we used to in the form of gold – it is ‘online’, taking intangibility to yet another level again. And then we have AI. Yes, I know we can see a robot or a drone, but AI is working through the ether via data stations. And this Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in 2020 occurred at 0 degrees of Aquarius. Before the conjunction was exact there was a Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn – indicative of very harsh times and hierarchical rulers, which we certainly have endured and are still enduring.
And then once Jupiter and Saturn had met exactly at 0 Aquarius, Pluto would eventually follow them into the sign; and so the notion of everything Aquarius was ready to be upended and transformed beyond our comprehension. And yes 2020 did augur harsh times, but did it also augur a new type of civilisation? I think, as I said at the time, that it did. We also currently have a very strange comet in the sky in the form of 3I/Atlas – an interstellar object that is not from our galaxy. It has just made its closest path to Earth. Comets have since ancient times been harbingers of doom – but what does this object augur, when it doesn’t play by any known rules that have gone before? Put this all together and we are within such a transforming world that the old rules just don’t seem to apply if we try to work out what this particular New Moon and Winter Solstice might have in store for us. It is indeed a pre-Christmas puzzle of the highest order.
So many potential endings, and so many potential new beginnings. In the meantime, however, I hope we can take a message from the Sagittarian nature of this New Moon. Sagittarius and Jupiter, in the form of Zeus, are very good at looking down from Zeus’ mountain kingdom with a view to seeing the big picture. So let’s consider the impact of being a true warrior (Mars) from the point of view of the bigger picture and the value systems (Venus) that really matter in life, as we stand on the threshold of a new paradigm.
A Happy Christmas to one and all and thanks for reading my missives through the year. Onward into the new beginnings heralded by 2026 and the Fire Horse. A galloping horse that can be heard and seen sounds much more preferable to the sneaky, silent moving snake energy that you don’t know is there until it’s too late.
Merry Christmas and good wishes for a happy New Year.
